AnveVoice

Add a Voice AI Agent to a Tumblr Blog

Add the AnveVoice voice agent to a Tumblr blog by editing the custom HTML theme, with the exact settings path, https rule and recovery notes.

How to add AnveVoice to a Tumblr blog

Tumblr lets you add a script only through a custom HTML theme: enable the custom theme in your blog settings, open Edit HTML, paste the AnveVoice tag before the closing body tag, then update the preview and save. It works on the web version only, and all links in the theme must use https. Steps checked against the official documentation on 2026-10-14.

At a glance

  • Where the code goes: Settings > your blog > Custom theme > Edit Theme > Edit HTML
  • Coding needed: Pasting one line into theme code
  • Plan limits: None found in Tumblr's docs; editing is web-only
  • Time: About 3 minutes

What Tumblr allows

Tumblr blogs run on themes. You can pick one from the Theme Garden and adjust it with the Customizer, which does not take scripts. For anything else you turn on a custom theme and edit the HTML yourself. Tumblr's theme documentation is written for people who are comfortable hand-coding HTML, and its examples include ordinary script tags with an https source, so a remote script is a normal thing to put in a theme. The Help Center is blunt about support: staff cannot help with HTML or CSS customisation. Plan on keeping your own copy of the theme and following the steps below precisely. You also need an AnveVoice embed ID, which you get by creating a free voice bot at app.anvevoice.app.

  • 1. Prepare the tag — Replace YOUR_EMBED_ID with your ID. The address already uses https, which Tumblr requires inside themes. Code: <script src="https://anvevoice.app/embed.js?embedId=YOUR_EMBED_ID" async></script>

Add the tag to your theme

  • 1. Open settings — On tumblr.com in a desktop browser, click Settings in the left-hand menu. Tumblr notes that editing custom themes is only possible on the web, not in the apps.
  • 2. Choose the blog and enable the custom theme — Select the blog on the right side of the page. Under Custom theme, switch on Enable custom theme, then click Edit Theme.
  • 3. Open the HTML editor — Click the Edit HTML button. A side-by-side view shows the source code editor and a preview of your theme.
  • 4. Copy the original first — Select all the code and paste it into a text file as a backup. Tumblr keeps recent versions on its Theme Recovery page, but only a limited number of revisions.
  • 5. Paste the tag — Use the editor's find feature (Cmd or Ctrl plus F) to locate </body> and paste the AnveVoice line directly above it.
  • 6. Update preview, then save — Click Update Preview to render the change, then click the back arrow and click Save.

Things specific to Tumblr themes

If Save refuses to go through, Tumblr's troubleshooting advice is to change all http links in the theme to https; the editor's find-and-replace helps. The AnveVoice address is already https, but older theme code often is not. A theme pulls in pieces that vary by blog and post type, using curly-brace variables and blocks that Tumblr replaces at render time. Place the tag outside any such block, as a plain line above the closing body tag, so it loads on every page type the theme renders: the home page, permalinks and archive pages. If the blog is hidden from people without an account, visitors will not reach your pages at all. The Help Center notes the Visibility setting to switch off if you cannot view your blog at its normal address. Keep the original theme's code, or the name of the Theme Garden theme you started from, in case you want to go back.

Check that it works

  • 1. Open the public blog — Visit yourblogname.tumblr.com, or your custom domain, in a private window and hard refresh. Tumblr suggests clearing the browser cache between changes.
  • 2. Try the voice button — A round microphone should sit bottom-right. Click it, allow microphone access, and ask a question.
  • 3. Test another page type — Open a single post page and an archive page to confirm the theme prints the tag on each.

Common problems

  • Blog looks broken or blank: incorrect code was inserted. Tumblr suggests removing recent additions, saving, and checking again; restore your backup if needed.
  • Cannot save: a link in the theme uses http. Replace it with https.
  • Edit HTML button missing: you are in the mobile app. Use a desktop browser.
  • Changes not visible: clear the browser cache and reload; also check that the blog is not hidden from signed-out visitors.
