AnveVoice

Add a Voice AI Agent to WordPress (2026 Guide)

How to add the AnveVoice voice agent to a self-hosted WordPress or WordPress.com site: plugin method, theme method, plan limits and how to check it works.

How to add AnveVoice to a WordPress site

Install the AnveVoice plugin and paste your embed ID, or paste one script tag into your site header or footer with a code plugin such as WPCode or your theme's footer. On WordPress.com you need a plan that allows plugins. Steps checked against the official documentation on 2026-10-14.

At a glance

  • Where the code goes: AnveVoice plugin settings screen, or site-wide header/footer (WPCode, or footer.php in a child theme)
  • Coding needed: None with a plugin; basic file editing with the theme method
  • WordPress.com: Plugins and custom JavaScript need a plugin-enabled plan (Business or higher for most existing sites)
  • Time: About 2 minutes once you have your embed ID

Before you start

You need an AnveVoice account and the embed ID for your site. Sign up at app.anvevoice.app (the Free plan needs no card), create a voice bot for your website, and copy the embed ID from the dashboard. Your install tag will look like this, with your own ID in place of YOUR_EMBED_ID. Check which kind of WordPress you run. Self-hosted WordPress (WordPress.org software on your own hosting) lets administrators install any plugin. WordPress.com is the hosted service run by Automattic; there, adding plugins or custom code depends on your plan.

  • 1. Copy your install tag — Replace YOUR_EMBED_ID with the ID from your AnveVoice dashboard. You can add &position=bottom-left or &theme=dark to the URL if you want a different placement or colour scheme. Code: <script src="https://anvevoice.app/embed.js?embedId=YOUR_EMBED_ID" async></script>

Method 1: the AnveVoice plugin (no code)

AnveVoice publishes a small open-source WordPress plugin that adds a Settings → AnveVoice screen where you paste your embed ID and choose the button position and theme. It is distributed from GitHub; it is not yet listed in the WordPress.org plugin directory, so you upload the ZIP rather than searching for it.

  • 1. Download the plugin ZIP — Download anvevoice-wordpress-0.1.0.zip from the AnveVoice integrations release page on GitHub (github.com/ANVEAI/anvevoice-integrations/releases).
  • 2. Upload and activate — In WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the ZIP, click Install Now, then Activate.
  • 3. Paste your embed ID — Go to Settings → AnveVoice, paste the embed ID from your AnveVoice dashboard, pick position and theme, and save. The plugin loads the script asynchronously on every front-end page.

Method 2: add the tag with the WPCode plugin

WPCode, formerly called Insert Headers and Footers, is a free plugin in the WordPress.org directory with millions of active installs. It keeps the tag outside your theme, so a theme update or a theme switch does not remove it.

  • 1. Install WPCode — In your WordPress admin go to Plugins → Add New, search for WPCode, then install and activate "WPCode – Insert Headers and Footers + Custom Code Snippets".
  • 2. Open the header and footer screen — Go to Code Snippets → Header & Footer in the admin menu.
  • 3. Paste the tag — Paste your AnveVoice script tag into the Footer box (or the Header box; both work because the tag loads asynchronously). Leave any existing code in those boxes as it is.
  • 4. Save — Click Save Changes. The tag now loads on every page that uses your theme's header and footer.

Method 3: add the tag to your theme

Classic themes build every page from template files, including footer.php, which generates the site footer. You can paste the tag just before the closing </body> tag in that file. Edit a child theme rather than the parent theme: changes to a parent theme are overwritten when the theme updates. Block themes (most themes released since WordPress 5.9) use HTML templates edited in the Site Editor and do not give you a footer.php to edit, so use the plugin method with a block theme. If Theme File Editor is missing, your host or a security plugin may have disabled file editing. Use Method 1 instead.

  • 1. Open the theme file editor — Go to Appearance → Theme File Editor and select your child theme.
  • 2. Find the closing body tag — Open footer.php and locate </body> near the end of the file.
  • 3. Paste and update — Paste the AnveVoice tag on the line directly above </body>, then click Update File.

WordPress.com sites

On WordPress.com, adding a script tag requires installing a plugin, and plugin installation depends on your plan. WordPress.com's own guidance says you need at least the Business plan to install your own plugins, and its staff have confirmed in support forums that custom JavaScript is not available below that tier on existing sites. Some newer accounts have been offered plugins on lower plans, so check what your plan shows under Plugins before upgrading. Once plugins are available, follow Method 1: install WPCode from the plugin screen and paste the tag into Header & Footer.

Check that it works

  • 1. Open your site in a private window — Logged-in admin views sometimes load differently because of caching plugins; a private window shows what visitors see.
  • 2. Look for the voice button — A round microphone button appears in the bottom-right corner (or where you set position). Click it, allow microphone access, and ask a question about your site.
  • 3. Clear caches if it does not appear — If you use a caching or optimisation plugin, purge its cache. If the plugin combines or delays JavaScript, exclude anvevoice.app/embed.js from those optimisations.

Common problems

  • Button not showing after saving: purge the page cache and any CDN cache, then reload in a private window.
  • Button appears twice: the tag is in two places (for example WPCode and footer.php). Keep one; the script also ignores a second copy, but one tag is cleaner.
  • Tag removed after a theme update: you edited the parent theme. Move the tag to WPCode or a child theme.
  • Microphone prompt never appears: the page must be served over HTTPS; browsers block the microphone on plain HTTP pages.
