Best AI Helpdesk for Small Teams (2026): 7 Compared
Seven helpdesk and shared-inbox tools with AI for small support teams, compared on seat pricing, AI billing and free options. Vendor data, 2026-10-14.
Best AI helpdesk for small teams: seven compared
A small support team needs a shared inbox, a chat widget and AI that actually helps without blowing the budget. Seven helpdesks publish enough to compare: Help Scout, Freshchat, Crisp, Re:amaze, HubSpot, Zendesk and Intercom. Researched from the sources below on 2026-10-14. AnveVoice is our product. It is left out of the ranked list because it does not fit this use case, and the page says so. Other tools are described from their own websites, checked on 2026-10-14. We do not receive payment from any tool listed.
How we chose
We imagined a team of two to ten people. AnveVoice is not a ticketing helpdesk, so it is not ranked here, and we explain where it could sit beside one.
- Cost for a small seat count (weighted most), including any free plan and how pricing scales.
- How AI is billed: per resolution, per outcome, per session or included credits.
- Core helpdesk basics: shared inbox, chat widget, knowledge base and handoff.
- Simplicity for a team without an administrator.
- Stated limits, such as seat minimums.

1. Help Scout: a simple shared inbox with a free plan
Help Scout is a shared-inbox helpdesk whose Beacon widget combines live chat, contact forms and help articles. Its free plan includes 5 users, 1 inbox, 1 Docs site and 1 Beacon, with no payment method. Paid plans are Standard $25, Plus $45 and Pro $75 per user a month, though the page does not say whether the shown prices assume annual billing. The AI Answers chatbot costs $0.75 per resolution with a monthly spend cap and a 3-month free trial. Limitation: the Beacon page does not describe AI for Beacon itself.
2. Freshchat: up to ten free agents on chat and email
Freshchat from Freshworks is an omnichannel messaging product covering website and mobile chat, email, Facebook, Instagram, SMS, WhatsApp, Line and voice via Freshcaller. Its free plan covers up to 10 agents with a chat widget, shared inbox and email. Growth is $19 per agent a month billed annually, Pro $49, Enterprise $79. The Freddy AI Agent starts on Growth at $49 per 100 sessions after 500 included. Limitation: voice is a separate product with its own pricing, and intelligent routing needs Pro.
3. Crisp: workspace pricing instead of per-seat
Crisp prices by workspace, covering 4 to 20+ seats rather than charging per person, and combines a shared inbox, chat widget, no-code AI agent builder and knowledge base. It lists a wide channel set and translation into 50+ languages. Free is $0 with two seats and no AI credits; Mini is $45 a month, Essentials $95, Plus $295; extra seats $10 a month; AI credits are $5, $25 and $75 a month on Mini, Essentials and Plus. Nonprofits and students get 50% off. Limitation: AI is metered by credits.
4. Re:amaze: month-to-month helpdesk with chat and AI
Re:amaze offers email, live chat, social, SMS and VoIP in one inbox, marketed to ecommerce and online businesses. Billing is month-to-month. AI Agent is included on Basic, Pro and Plus (5, 10 and 20 resolutions per user a month). Basic is $29 per team member monthly ($26.10 annual), Pro $49, Plus $69, and Starter is $59 flat for 500 conversations a month. Extra AI resolutions cost $0.85. Limitation: the AI is in beta, there is no free plan and a 14-day trial applies.
5. HubSpot Service Hub: free chat and ticketing tied to a CRM
HubSpot gives free live chat and chatbot building with its CRM, with conversations in a shared inbox and tickets. Service Hub Free is $0; Starter begins at $20 per seat a month regular price, Professional $100 and Enterprise $150. Customer Agent, its AI, is on Professional and above, and its credit or per-resolution pricing was not found on the pages we read. Limitation: the free tier is generous but the AI sits two tiers up.
6. Zendesk: the full suite, priced for growth
Zendesk is a ticketing suite with messaging, voice and AI agents in 80 languages (vendor-stated). Support Team is US$19 per agent a month billed annually (US$25 monthly) but has no live chat or messaging; Suite Team is US$55 annual and Suite Professional US$115. Automated resolutions cost US$2.00 pay-as-you-go, billed only when resolved without escalation. A Copilot add-on is US$50 per agent a month. Limitation: heavier to administer than small teams need, there is no free plan, and the page shows resolution prices in two currencies.
7. Intercom: Fin AI agent priced per outcome
Intercom has a helpdesk and Messenger plus Fin, an AI agent that can also run on another helpdesk. Fin is priced at $0.99 per outcome, with a minimum of 50 outcomes a month on another helpdesk, and can take actions through API, Data Connectors or MCP. Seats are Essential $29, Advanced $85 and Expert $132 a month, with free Lite seats; Copilot is $29 per agent. A 14-day trial includes Fin. Limitation: seat plus outcome costs can climb quickly, Fin Voice is custom priced, and billing terms for the seat prices are not stated.
Where AnveVoice fits
AnveVoice is a website voice and chat agent with no ticketing, inbox or SLA tracking, so it is not a helpdesk and is not ranked. Some teams put a website agent in front of a helpdesk to answer simple visitor questions and send the rest to the inbox.
Choosing for a small team
- Two to five people, no budget: start with Help Scout's free plan or Freshchat's free plan.
- Growing but cost-sensitive: Crisp's workspace pricing avoids per-seat growth.
- Already on HubSpot: use the free service tools first.
- Expect big volume soon: look at Zendesk or Intercom, and model AI costs at three times today's volume.
