Add a Voice AI Agent to BigCommerce (2026 Guide)
Add the AnveVoice voice agent to BigCommerce with Script Manager: Storefront → Script Manager, footer placement, location, consent category and checkout notes.
How to add AnveVoice to a BigCommerce store
BigCommerce has a dedicated Script Manager under Storefront. Create a script, set the placement to Footer, the location to Storefront pages, the category to Functional, paste the AnveVoice tag, and save. Script Manager only works with Stencil themes, and the location choice decides whether checkout is included. Steps checked against the official documentation on 2026-10-14.
At a glance
- Where the code goes: Storefront → Script Manager → Create a Script (Channel Manager for multi-storefront)
- Coding needed: None; fill in a short form and paste one line
- Plan limits: No plan limit stated; needs a Stencil theme (Blueprint themes do not render Script Manager scripts)
- Time: About 3 minutes
Before you start
Sign up or log in at app.anvevoice.app and copy your embed ID. BigCommerce stores are served over HTTPS, so the microphone permission prompt will work on the live storefront. Check your theme engine. BigCommerce's help article says Script Manager is only available to stores using Stencil themes, and its developer documentation adds that the older Blueprint theme engine does not render scripts inserted through the Script Manager. If your storefront is Blueprint, this method will not work until you move to Stencil.
- 1. Have the tag ready — You will paste this single line. Replace YOUR_EMBED_ID with your own. Add &position=bottom-left or &theme=dark to the URL if wanted. Code: <script src="https://anvevoice.app/embed.js?embedId=YOUR_EMBED_ID" async></script>
Create the script in Script Manager
BigCommerce calls this an advanced feature that requires knowledge of scripting, and suggests a partner if you are unfamiliar. The AnveVoice tag is a ready-made line, so no scripting is required on your side.
- 1. Open Script Manager — In the control panel go to Storefront → Script Manager. On a multi-storefront store, open the storefront in Channel Manager and find Script Manager in its settings.
- 2. Click Create a Script — Enter a Script name, which is internal only, for example AnveVoice voice agent. A description is optional.
- 3. Set Placement to Footer — The form asks for header or footer. Choose Footer. BigCommerce's developer guidance recommends footer scripts over head scripts for compatibility with the widest range of themes.
- 4. Choose the Location — The options are Storefront pages (all pages except checkout and order confirmation), Checkout, Order Confirmation, and All pages (storefront, checkout, order confirmation and cart). Choose Storefront pages.
- 5. Pick the Script category — This feeds the cookie consent banner. A voice assistant is an optional feature, so Functional is the best description; BigCommerce defines Functional scripts as those that enable enhanced functionality such as videos and live chat. If shoppers decline that category, the script does not load.
- 6. Set the type and paste — Set Script type to the option for entering the script manually, paste the AnveVoice line, and leave Load method as Default or choose Async. Save.
Why not pick All pages
BigCommerce documents that scripts on payment pages need an integrity hash: the Script Manager form includes up to five SRI hash fields, and its guidance says you must include at least one for any scripts used to customise payment pages such as checkout. The developer docs add that scripts do not render in the checkout or order confirmation contexts unless Optimized One-Page Checkout is enabled. The AnveVoice tag points to a hosted script that can change when AnveVoice updates it, and BigCommerce notes that a hash becomes invalid whenever the script provider changes the file, so a pinned hash is a poor fit. That is a good reason to keep the voice button on Storefront pages and out of the payment flow.
Cookie consent and the 20-second cache
If you turned on BigCommerce's cookie consent banner, the category you choose in the form is enforced: visitors who opt out of Functional scripts will not see the voice button. That is correct behaviour, and it is why testing from a fresh private window matters. BigCommerce's developer documentation notes that on a hosted storefront, new or updated scripts take about 20 seconds to cache. Wait half a minute after saving before concluding that it failed. Also note that local Stencil CLI development does not render scripts added through Script Manager.
Check that it works
- 1. Open the live storefront — Use a private window, accept cookies if the banner appears, and wait a moment for the script to load.
- 2. Check the button — The round microphone sits at the bottom-right. Click it, allow the browser prompt, and ask a question.
- 3. Walk a product, category and cart page — With Storefront pages selected, the button should appear on all of these but not at checkout.
Common problems on BigCommerce
- Script Manager not in the menu: the store may be on Blueprint, or the storefront is selected in Channel Manager rather than the main menu.
- Saved but not showing: wait for the roughly 20-second cache, then hard-refresh; check that Placement and Location match the steps above.
- Hidden for some visitors: they declined the consent category. Test with consent accepted.
- Two buttons: an old Footer Scripts entry from the legacy area also holds the tag. BigCommerce says the legacy Footer Scripts field still works but recommends moving scripts into Script Manager.
- Verification meta tags: BigCommerce's FAQ says those belong in Site Verification Tags under Settings → Data solutions, not in Script Manager. This does not affect AnveVoice.
