Best AI Chatbot for Small Business Websites (2026)

Six AI chatbots for small business websites, compared on monthly cost, setup without a developer, handoff to the owner and room to grow. Checked 2026-10-14.

Best AI chatbot for small business websites: six options compared

A small business needs a chatbot that costs little, goes live without a developer and tells the owner when a person is needed. Six tools publish enough to compare on that basis: Tidio, Elfsight, AnveVoice, Smartsupp, Chatbase and Botpress. Researched from the sources below on 2026-10-14. AnveVoice is our product and appears in this list. Other tools are described from their own websites, checked on 2026-10-14. We do not receive payment from any tool listed.

How we chose

We imagined an owner-operator with a website, no technical staff and a few hundred visitor conversations a month. Enterprise platforms and phone-only tools are left out.

  • Monthly cost at small scale (weighted most), including whether there is a free tier to test with.
  • Setup without a developer: paste a snippet, install a plugin or build from your site URL.
  • Answers drawn from your own content, so the bot does not make up policies.
  • Handoff: how a conversation reaches a person when the bot cannot help.
  • Room to grow without changing tools.

The shortlist at a glance

Tools are ordered by fit to the criteria above, not by price or popularity. Pricing columns describe how each vendor charges, using the vendor's own pricing page checked on 2026-10-14.

  • Tool | Best for | Voice on website | Pricing basis | Free plan
  • Tidio | Small ecommerce stores with order questions | Not published | Flat tiers by conversations, from $24.17 per month | Yes: 50 billable conversations a month
  • Elfsight (AI chatbot widget) | Very small sites on a tight budget | Not published | Flat tiers by widget views, from $5 per month billed yearly | Yes: 50 messages a month
  • AnveVoice | Service businesses whose visitors may prefer speaking | Yes, in the browser | Flat tiers: Free, $39, $129 per month | Yes: $0, 50,000 tokens a month, 1 bot, no card
  • Smartsupp | Small online shops that want a person and a bot | Not published | Flat tiers; paid from $17 per month | Yes: 25 conversations a month
  • Chatbase | Owners who want an agent that can run simple actions | Not published | Usage credits, from $40 per month | No; 7-day trial
  • Botpress | Owners with a technical friend or freelancer | Not published | Flat tiers by conversations, paid from $150 per month billed yearly | Yes: 100 conversations a month

1. Tidio: chat and AI together for a shop owner

Tidio combines live chat with its Lyro AI agent. Lyro answers only from approved sources, handles order-status and returns flows for stores, and hands off with the full history. A free plan allows 10 seats and 50 billable conversations, and a WordPress plugin and Shopify app are listed. Starter is $24.17 a month for 100 conversations and Growth from $49.17 for 250. Limitation: it is shaped for ecommerce, and the vendor's claim that Lyro averages 75% resolution is its own, so test it on your questions. Plus starts at $300 a month plus usage, which is a long way up.

2. Elfsight AI Chatbot Widget: the cheapest paid route to a trained chatbot

Elfsight is a no-code widget you train on your PDFs, Q&A entries and pages, then paste into your site; it works with WordPress, Shopify, Wix and Squarespace. It can offer booking through Calendly or Cal.com and capture leads before handing to a human. The free plan includes 50 messages a month, and paid plans start at $5 a month billed yearly. Limitation: the paid-plan chatbot message limits are described only loosely, and it is text only, so check the plan you want against your expected messages.

3. AnveVoice: a voice and chat agent for the website itself

AnveVoice lets visitors talk to the website, answers from the site's own content, and can navigate pages and fill the site's own forms, which suits a service business whose visitors want to book or enquire. Install is a script tag, a WordPress plugin or a Shopify app. There is a Free plan ($0, 50,000 tokens, 1 bot, no card), Growth at $39 a month (₹2,999) and Scale at $129 (₹9,999), all flat. Limitation: website only, with no phone, SMS or WhatsApp, and no human live chat inbox, so a handoff means directing the visitor to your contact method.

4. Smartsupp: inexpensive live chat plus a separate AI agent

Smartsupp is a live chat product with a Mira AI agent trained from website scraping, FAQs and a product feed. Mira detects and replies in the customer's language, and integrations are listed for Shopify, WordPress, PrestaShop, Wix and Magento. Solo is $17 a month for one operator, Mira is $16 a month for 100 conversations, and a free plan allows 25 conversations. Limitation: the AI costs extra on top of the chat plan, prices exclude VAT, and voice is not mentioned.

5. Chatbase: train an agent on your content fast

Chatbase builds an AI agent from your content and can deploy it on a website with copy-paste code, as well as on email, WhatsApp and other channels. It describes built-in actions such as order lookup, cancelling a subscription and invoices, which go beyond answering questions. Hobby is $40 a month for 700 message credits with a 7-day trial; Standard is $150 for 4,000. Extra agents cost $25 a month and removing branding $99 a month. Limitation: there is no free plan, and the actions are back-end actions, not navigating your page.

6. Botpress: a real free tier, then a large step

Botpress offers a free plan (100 conversations a month, 3 AI agents) and webchat you embed with a script tag, with guides for WordPress, Wix and Webflow. Agents can take actions such as refunds and account updates through workflows. The first paid plan, Plus, is $150 a month billed annually for 250 conversations. Limitation: it is built for developers and support teams, so a non-technical owner may find it heavy, and the jump from free to paid is large.

A sensible way to start

Pick two tools, put each on a free plan or trial for a week, and ask both the ten questions customers really send you. Keep a note of wrong answers. The right small-business chatbot is the one that is wrong least often on your questions, not the one with the longest feature list. Whatever you choose, write down who receives handoffs and how fast they reply. A bot that promises a human and delivers silence harms trust more than having no bot.

Costs to remember

  • Per-seat chat tools charge for each person who answers; flat tiers (AnveVoice, Elfsight) charge for the site.
  • Branding removal, extra agents and AI add-ons are often separate line items.
  • Prices are those on vendor pages on 2026-10-14 and exclude taxes unless stated.
