1. AnveVoice: voice assistant with an official Shopify listing

The AnveVoice app is listed on the Shopify App Store as a voice chatbot that answers product, shipping and returns questions, trained on your products, pages and policies. The listing describes one-click setup with no theme edits, and it bills through Shopify in US dollars. Because it is our own product we have tried to be exact about its edges. Listed plans on 2026-10-14: Free at $0 with one voice bot and 50K tokens a month; Growth at $39 a month with five voice embeds and 2M tokens; Scale at $129 a month with unlimited embeds and 8M tokens. Limitations: the button appears on storefront pages, not inside checkout; the listing warns it is incompatible with some stores; and it has no phone or WhatsApp channel.

2. Tidio: affordable chat with Lyro for order and returns questions

Tidio targets small ecommerce stores and lists a Shopify app. Its Lyro AI agent handles order status and returns flows, answers only from approved sources, and passes the conversation to a person with the full history. For a store owner whose main pain is repetitive where-is-my-order messages, that scope is well chosen. The free plan covers 10 seats and 50 billable conversations a month, with Lyro's first 50 conversations free; Starter is $24.17 a month for 100 billable conversations, Growth from $49.17 for 250 (as listed 2026-10-14). Limitation: no voice features are mentioned, and billing is by conversation, so a busy sale week can push you up a tier.

3. Gorgias: a Shopify-native helpdesk priced by tickets

Gorgias is a conversational AI and helpdesk platform built for ecommerce, with a one-click Shopify install and store data kept natively inside the product. Email, chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and social channels all land in one ticket view, and voice is an add-on for the phone. Plans scale by tickets rather than agents: Starter is $10 a month for 50 tickets and Basic $50 a month annual for 300, with a 7-day free trial. The AI Agent is charged per automated interaction, $0.90 on annual billing or $1.00 monthly, and each also counts as a ticket (checked 2026-10-14). Limitation: no free plan, and browser voice is not described, so this is a support desk first.

4. Text (formerly LiveChat): classic live chat with an AI agent

The livechat.com site now presents the product under the Text brand, with AI Agents included in its current plans. It offers a Shopify app and a WooCommerce route, and its AI Agent can fetch order status from the store. Over 200 integrations make it easy to connect to the rest of a stack. Essential is $19 per user a month billed annually and Growth is $79, with a 14-day trial and no permanent free plan; older LiveChat plans are still displayed (2026-10-14). Limitation: pricing is per seat, so each person who answers chats adds cost, and voice is not mentioned.

5. ChatBot from Text: a low-effort AI agent built from your URL

ChatBot is the AI agent from the same company, trained by pasting your website address so that it builds a knowledge base automatically. It has direct Shopify and WordPress integrations, and it hands conversations to human agents in a shared inbox. It suits a founder who wants an answering layer without writing flows. Essential is $19 per user a month billed annually (or $25 monthly) and includes only 10 AI resolutions a month; Growth is $79 annual with 200. Extra resolutions cost about $0.99 each (vendor page, 2026-10-14). Limitation: ten resolutions disappears quickly, and there is a permanent-free gap, only a 14-day trial.

6. Smartsupp: cheap chat and an AI shopping assistant

Smartsupp pairs live chat with Mira, an AI agent trained from website scraping, FAQs and a product feed, and lists Shopify among its integrations. It detects and answers in the customer's language, which helps stores selling across borders. A free plan includes one operator and 25 conversations a month; Solo is $17 a month and Mira costs $16 a month for 100 conversations, with prices shown excluding VAT (2026-10-14). Limitation: the homepage gives conflicting integration counts, and voice is not mentioned.

Shopify rules that matter before you install

Shopify's help center says to edit theme code only if an app or the theme editor cannot do the job, and it warns that theme updates can strip code you added. An app listing avoids that risk. If you do paste a script into theme.liquid, duplicate the theme first and check the file again after every theme update. Checkout is the other limit. A script in theme.liquid covers storefront pages; checkout layouts are available only to Shopify Plus merchants, so do not expect a floating button on the payment step with any tool on this list.

Matching the tool to the store

A store with a few hundred orders a month and lots of pre-sale product questions will get more from a voice or chat assistant on product pages than from a ticket desk. A store with thousands of orders and a support team is better served by a helpdesk such as Gorgias, where the AI is one part of a workflow. Start with the free plan or trial that most closely matches your channel, and measure how many questions it actually resolves.
