Add a Voice AI Agent to Lightspeed eCom Stores
Add the AnveVoice voice agent to a Lightspeed eCom (C-Series) webshop through Web Extras, Custom JavaScript, with warnings Lightspeed gives about scripts.
How to add AnveVoice to a Lightspeed eCom webshop
Lightspeed eCom (C-Series) has a Custom JavaScript option under Web Extras in the Back Office. It runs on every page of the shop. Lightspeed warns that it is for experienced users, that it gives no support for scripts, and that some scripts can disturb the ordering tool, so test carefully. Steps checked against the official documentation on 2026-10-14.
At a glance
- Where the code goes: Back Office > Settings > Website Settings > Web Extras > Custom JavaScript
- Coding needed: Pasting one tag; no template editing for the basic route
- Plan limits: Lightspeed's article names no plan requirement, but says it provides no script support and recommends this only for experienced users
- Scope: Runs on all pages of the shop; the Template Editor is Lightspeed's route for single areas
Which Lightspeed product this covers
Lightspeed sells several systems, and the naming overlaps. This guide is for eCom (C-Series), the hosted webshop product whose Back Office has Settings > Website Settings > Web Extras. Lightspeed's newer E-Series online site, managed from the Online tab inside the Retail POS, uses a different site editor and different code locations; those are not covered here, and you should check Lightspeed's own E-Series help for the equivalent. If your Back Office does not show Web Extras, you are probably on the other product.
Before you start
Create your AnveVoice bot at app.anvevoice.app (Free plan: $0, 50,000 tokens a month, one bot, no card) and copy your embed ID. Plan a test window: because custom JavaScript on a webshop runs on every page, including the cart, it is wise to try it outside peak trading hours and have the old field contents saved somewhere. Lightspeed's help article is blunt about the risks. It describes adding JavaScript as only recommended for experienced users, says that tracking code can cause the shop's ordering tool to stop working, that other scripts can break the layout or disable other functionality, and that Lightspeed does not provide script support. It tells you to use only secure SSL connections for external code and to use unique variable names to avoid clashes. The AnveVoice tag loads from an https address and defines no variables of its own in your page, but the warnings still mean you should verify that checkout works.
- 1. Copy your install tag — Replace YOUR_EMBED_ID with the ID shown in your AnveVoice dashboard (app.anvevoice.app). Optional URL parameters are &position=bottom-left and &theme=dark. Code: <script src="https://anvevoice.app/embed.js?embedId=YOUR_EMBED_ID" async></script>
Method 1: Web Extras, Custom JavaScript
- 1. Open Web Extras — In the Back Office left menu go to Settings > Website Settings > Web Extras.
- 2. Open Custom JavaScript — Click Custom JavaScript. Depending on your Back Office version this may appear as a switch labelled Custom JS that you need to turn on before the editor accepts code.
- 3. Paste the tag — Paste the AnveVoice tag. Lightspeed's article talks about JavaScript in general; a script-tag integration guide from another vendor for the same C-Series screen pastes a full script element, which is what the AnveVoice tag is. If the field rejects tags on your account, ask Lightspeed which form it expects.
- 4. Save and test — Save, then visit the live shop in a private window and test as in the next section.
Method 2: the Template Editor
For a script that should appear in one area only, the Lightspeed article points to the Template Editor. Theme developers' documentation for eCom describes mandatory theme files named head.rain and body.rain, through which users or apps inject code into a theme. Enabling the Template Editor, however, has consequences that Lightspeed documents elsewhere: your shop's design and code become independent of the original theme, so you stop receiving theme updates, and switching themes later replaces the code you edited. For a site-wide voice button that trade-off is rarely worth it, so use Method 1 unless you already work in the Template Editor.
Lightspeed-specific points
Ordering tool: Lightspeed specifically warns that adding tracking-style code can stop the ordering tool working. After saving, put a product in the cart and walk through to the last checkout step (without paying), and repeat on mobile. If anything misbehaves, empty the Custom JavaScript field and save; the shop returns to its previous state. Consent: if you use a cookie banner, check whether your privacy rules need the voice assistant to wait for consent. That is a business and legal decision outside the install itself. Support split: Lightspeed supports the shop; AnveVoice supports the tag. If the shop layout breaks, remove the tag first to find out which side is at fault.
Check that it works
- 1. Open the live shop in a private window — This avoids Back Office sessions and cached pages.
- 2. Use the voice button — A round microphone button appears bottom-right by default; click it, allow the microphone (HTTPS required) and ask a product question.
- 3. Run a cart test — Add a product, go to checkout and check that every step still works.
Common problems on Lightspeed eCom
- Nothing shows after saving: the Custom JS switch is off, or the browser still has the old page cached. Reload without cache.
- Layout or ordering broken: remove the tag and re-test; another script on the page may be clashing.
- Button missing on one language store: confirm the Custom JavaScript is set for the shop view you are testing.
- Cannot find Web Extras: you are probably on the newer E-Series online site, which has its own site editor.
