Best AI Phone Receptionist (2026): 6 Options Compared

Six AI phone receptionists compared on pricing basis, booking, handoff and stated limits, plus one human alternative. All data from vendor websites, 2026-10-14.

Best AI phone receptionist: six options compared

An AI phone receptionist answers calls, takes details, books appointments and passes hard calls to people. Six options publish enough to compare: Rosie, Goodcall, Smith.ai, My AI Front Desk, CloudTalk and Aircall. Pricing models differ more than features do, so that comes first. Researched from the sources below on 2026-10-14. AnveVoice is our product. It is left out of the ranked list because it does not fit this use case, and the page says so. Other tools are described from their own websites, checked on 2026-10-14. We do not receive payment from any tool listed.

How we chose

This is about phone answering, which AnveVoice does not do, so it is not listed. We ranked for a small business owner who wants calls handled without a call centre.

  • Pricing basis (weighted most): flat tier, per call, per unique customer, per minute or per seat, and how overage works.
  • What happens on a call: booking, transfer to a person, summaries and CRM or calendar links.
  • Setup effort: building from your website or business profile versus integration work.
  • Human fallback or hybrid options.
  • Stated language, trial and compliance details.

The shortlist at a glance

Tools are ordered by fit to the criteria above, not by price or popularity. Pricing columns describe how each vendor charges, using the vendor's own pricing page checked on 2026-10-14.

1. Rosie: cheap flat plans for after-hours calls

Rosie answers calls, books appointments and texts call details to the owner. It learns from your website or Google Business Profile, then you add FAQs and a greeting, test by calling and forward your calls. Call summaries, transcripts and recordings come with spam and sales-call filtering, and iOS and Android apps plus Zapier are included. Plans are Professional $49 a month (250 minutes), Scale $149 (1,000) and Growth $299 (2,000), with two months free on annual billing and a 7-day trial. Limitation: overage for minutes is not stated, only English and Spanish are supported, and its website chat is text only.

2. Goodcall: priced by unique customer, not by minute

Goodcall answers calls 24/7, qualifies callers and books appointments. Its distinctive pricing counts unique customers (one phone number per month) rather than calls or minutes, so a caller who rings five times in a month counts once. Starter is $79 a month for 100 unique customers, Growth $129 for 500 and Scale $299 for 2,000, with overage of 79c, 26c and 15c per customer by tier. There is no free trial, but you can build and test a demo agent for free and pay when you connect a number. Limitation: call-count figures on the page are approximations, and a web chat or website widget is not mentioned.

3. Smith.ai: AI-first, hybrid or human-first call handling

Smith.ai is a call-answering and intake service, popular with law firms, offering AI receptionists, human receptionists or a hybrid. It integrates with practice-management tools such as Clio, Filevine, Lawmatics and MyCase, and lists 7,000+ systems. The AI Receptionist has a free plan with 25 calls a month, then $3.00 a call (a card is required at signup); Pro is $150 a month at $2.00 a call and Enterprise $500 at $1.67. Human-staffed plans cost more. Limitation: the pricing page, the AI page and the homepage show different figures, so check the live page; support is English and Spanish.

4. My AI Front Desk: phone, text and chat under one memory

My AI Front Desk builds a receptionist from your website URL or a description, and one agent works across phone, SMS, WhatsApp, web chat, email and website forms, sharing one memory per customer. It connects to calendars and CRMs and, via Zapier, to other apps. It lists 20+ languages. Business-in-a-Box is $99 a month, or $79 billed annually, with 200 voice minutes, 100 chatbot conversations, 400 SMS and 300 website form submissions. Voice overage is $0.25 a minute (down to $0.07 on Enterprise). Limitation: the homepage and pricing FAQ disagree about a free plan.

5. CloudTalk: a phone system with AI voice agents added

CloudTalk is a cloud business phone system with AI voice agents, covering after-hours calls, lead qualification and outbound calls in 70+ languages and accents. Numbers are available in 160+ countries with 100+ integrations. AI Receptionist is EUR 99 a month for 200 minutes, AI Specialist EUR 349 for 1,000 minutes, and as low as EUR 0.15 a minute above 10,000. Seat plans start at Lite EUR 19 per user a month billed annually. A 14-day trial includes 50 AI minutes. Limitation: prices are shown in EUR, Expert needs three users, and it is a phone system first.

6. Aircall: AI voice agents on top of a business phone platform

Aircall combines cloud calling with AI voice agents that answer calls, gather details, resolve routine inquiries and escalate with context. It lists 250+ native integrations including Salesforce, HubSpot and Zendesk. Standalone AI Voice Agents are $0.49 a minute pay as you go, with a $100 monthly minimum, bundles such as 2,500 minutes for $725 a month and custom rates from $0.19 a minute at 10,000+ minutes. Essentials is $30 per license a month billed annually with a three-user minimum. Limitation: it is aimed at teams, not a one-person shop.

A human alternative

Ruby Receptionists uses human receptionists, and states that its AI does not independently answer calls. Plans start at $250 a month for 50 minutes, with live chat from $143 a month for 10 chats. If callers value a person above all, it is a different category from the AI tools here.

Where AnveVoice fits

AnveVoice is a website voice agent and does not answer phone calls, so it is not listed. If you want both, pair one receptionist above with a website agent.

Trial checklist

  • Call the agent from a mobile and a landline and listen for interruptions and delays.
  • Ask a question outside its knowledge and check it admits it does not know.
  • Book, cancel and reschedule once, and confirm the calendar actually updates.
  • Check the transfer: does a person receive a summary of the call?
